Joel Hargreaves, who has a brain injury, almost missed out on the trip to Anfield due to his wheelchair.

His family, of Halewood, Merseyside originally won a trip to Anfield through a charity called An Hour For Others. However the six-year-old’s need for a wheelchair almost ruined his chances of seeing the FA Cup quarter final between the Liverpool team and Blackburn Rovers. His mum, Kelly Hardiman said of winning the hospitality tickets: ““Joel was over the moon when we got the call to say we had been given tickets to go to the game, however when we were told that the tickets were located in the Main Stand we realised Joel could not attend due to his wheelchair.” All after hearing of Joel’s situation, Wayne Scholes of Red Touch Media offered four hospitality tickets for his own box, which could be accessed by Joel. “We can’t thank Wayne enough for such an amazing time,” said Kelly. “Joel had a fantastic day at the game we were all made up to be there, it was an amazing experience. “Joel had an accident whilst on holiday in the summer which left him with a hypoxic brain injury so he is fully dependent on others and needs a wheelchair to get around. He is still an in-patient at Alder Hey hospital, where he is continuing his rehabilitation with home leave at weekends.” Joel met Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher who were in the next box along and was invited round to meet his heroes. Kelly said: “Joel’s face lit up when he got to meet two of his heroes, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher. He loved playing football before his accident, and Joel attended Liverpool FC academy as well as playing for his local team Kingsthorne Tigers.” Read more on Liverpool Echo.
