Teenager nominated for award

Charlie Fogarty made an incredible recovery after sustaining a serious brain injury and has now been nominated for the Pride of Birmingham awards.

The sports-mad 18-year-old had just finished a four-year stint at Birmingham City Football Club's academy and was playing for Milton Keynes Dons when life suddenly changed. Charlie almost died after he was struck by a car and left with a severe brain injury. However with intense rehabilitation at the UK's leading charity for children with brain injury – The Children's Trust – Charlie made remarkable recovery. He relearned how to walk, talk and eat again and although he is still living with the effects of his brain injury, he is able to play football again and is back at mainstream school.
