Stroke in childhood clinical guideline to launch

With stroke affecting approximately 400 children in the UK every year the new Stroke in childhood clinical guideline and parent guideline will be welcomed when it launches next Wednesday at the RCPCH Annual Conference in Birmingham.

Over the last 15 years there has been a dramatic increase in the recognition of occurrence of childhood stroke - but challenges include delays in recognition and the logistics of timely investigation and imaging. The clinical guideline for diagnosis, management and rehabilitation will reflect the best and most up-to-date evidence or clinical practice (the current clinical guideline was published in 2004). Funded by the Stroke Association, the guideline will cover children and young people aged 29 days to 18 years (at the time of presentation) and resources will include the full guideline, a parent/carer guideline and a quick reference guide for clinicians. Further information will be available on Wednesday 24 May with the guideline and accompanying resources available on the RCPCH and Stroke Association’s websites
