People with disabilities exempt from wearing face coverings

The Government has set out a list of face covering exemptions, as they become mandatory in some enclosed spaces to help reduce the transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Under new government guidance, people with disabilities or hidden health conditions are exempt from using face masks. This includes mental health conditions or cognitive impairment. People are not required to prove they are exempt and it is for individuals to choose how they would want to communicate this to others. Exemption cards are available to download at gov.uk. The exemptions also include anyone under the age of 11. The public are asked to be mindful of people who are exempt from wearing a face covering. Face masks were made mandatory in additional closed spaces on July 24. The latest guidance can be found at gov.uk.
