Oscar win for portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything

Eddie Redmayne picked up the accolade for his depiction of the disabled scientist. The British actor won the best actor Oscar for his performance. He spent seven months preparing to play Hawking, who has motor neurone disease, mastering his physical decline into almost total paralysis. Redmayne plays Hawking as he gradually loses use of much of his body and learns to use a wheelchair and speak through a computer. On collecting the award Redmayne honoured Hawking and his family for their support in the film. Read more here. However some critics say the award is ‘not good news for disabled people’.
