Obama proposes $100m brain mapping project

US president Barack Obama has unveiled a new initiative to “unlock the mystery” of the human brain. An initial investment of $100m will fund research into technologies to map the human brain in its entirety – a task the White House compares to the landmark Human Genome Project. Researchers will look at how the brain stores and processes information, as well as investigating the link between brain function and behaviour. The project is called BRAIN (Brain Research Through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies) and begins in 2014. It is not clear at this stage what the implications would be for the treatment of acquired brain injury. Read the full story at the BBC.
