Mother's joy at daughter's continued recovery

Shannon, 13, was involved in a car accident in 2014 and has started to walk and smile again.

Fiona Folena, Shannon's mum has been in touch to update us on her daughter's positive recovery. Shannon suffered a serious brain injury in a car accident Pembrokeshire, Wales in March 2014. As a result she was left unable to walk or talk and went to The Children's Trust for intensive rehabilitation.  Fiona explains that since leaving The Children's Trust in December 2014, Shannon has continually improved. "In June 2015 I stopped some of her medicaton and it was like she just woke up," said Fiona. "One morning I saw Shannon moving her right leg so I asked Shannon to do it again and she did. And over the past eight months she has come a long way; She can now use her right arm a lot. "Shannon can't talk but she can use an iPad to talk. She can use a walking frame to walk. Shannon has got her smile back too. That's what has been missing so it feels like we have got a part of the old Shannon back after her accident." Fiona added: "She has come a long way but she still has a long way to go. I'm so proud of her, she's my rock because she's so strong."
