Monks provide a multi-sensory experience for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties.

Pupils smelled incense and felt the textures of embroidery.

Last week we attended The Children’s Trust’s school assembly where the pupils were joined by two monks from Saint Edward Brotherhood, Woking. It was an insightful learning experience for the pupils and staff, as the monks lit incense and encouraged the children and young people to feel the texture of the embroidered tapestries they had brought. As a thank you gesture to the monks for their time, the pupils donated vegetables from their school vegetable patch, for their monastery, which is dependent solely upon the freewill offerings of the public. The children and young people who attend The Children’s Trust School have profound and multiple learning difficulties and follow a multi-sensory curriculum; focusing on smell, touch and sound.
