Justice secretary moves ABI up the agenda

Brain injury has moved up the political agenda after the justice secretary spoke about the condition.

Chris Grayling – in a speech given to think tank Civitas about breaking the cycle of reoffending – noted the link between brain injury and offending. The Brain Injury Hub has reported on studies that have shown that a disproportionate number of people within the criminal justice system have reported head injuries in their pasts. “Astonishingly, it’s far more likely than not that if you’re a young person in custody you will have experienced a traumatic brain injury. Somewhere between 65 and 70% [65.1-72.1%],” Mr Grayling explained in his speech.
