Jo Whiley: 'Learning disabled have a right to a normal social life'

The BBC DJ’s sister has learning disabilities.

Jo led organised a recent acoustic music festival in aid of learning disability charity, Mencap. Talking about the importance of socialising she said: “My sister has learning disabilities so I have grown up in this world and it’s incredibly frustrating that people don’t have the access to a normal kind of life. “We want to send the message that people have a right to a normal social life just like anybody else.” Jo hosted the festival alongside 18-year-old Zoe Diprose who has a learning disability. She said: “I want to be able to stay out later. But if I can't get someone to look after me then I can't do it." Watch a video of the festival and an interview with Jo.
