Grab your cape for Superhero Tri

There’s still time to join Superhero Tri, a disability sport event where family and friends can all get involved.

Taking place at Windsor’s Dorney Lake on Sunday 19 August, groups will take part in the challenge, which involves a swim, bike ride and a push/run. Each team member can do a different part of the challenge and teams can include someone to push, guide or accompany any member of their team around the course. Alternatively one person can do all three sports. Sophia Warner, paralympian and ambassador for The Children’s Trust who founded the event, said: “Superhero Tri is a fantastic and unique event that gives people the chance to be gutsy and have fun. Anyone can enter, as long as there's at least one person with a disability in each team. I’m really excited for all the participants.” There are two distances to choose from: -       Sprint Superhero Tri (150m Swim, 3k cycle, 1km push/run ); and -       Half Superhero Tri (400m swim, 10k cycle, 2.5km push/run). The Children’s Trust can match up those without a fully formed team with other superhero teammates to help raise funds for the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury. Sophia added: “As a child I attended The Children’s Trust and without specialist care I wouldn’t have made it to the start line at the London Paralympics or had such an incredible sporting career. “Events like Superhero Tri are really inspirational, giving people with disabilities the chance to compete without barriers and share that great sense of sporting achievement.” There are more than 20 Paralympians taking part with celebrity team captains including David Weir and comedian Adam Hills. There are no cut-off times and participants can bring any kind of equipment they might need to help them complete the challenge, from flippers and floats in the water to electric and day chairs on the bike and push/run stages. Set in 450 acres of parkland, the day out will include entertainment and refreshments for superheroes and spectators big and small. To take part or volunteer on the day contact Katie Roberts at The Children’s Trust on 01737364322 or getinvolved@thechildrenstrust.org.uk and check out the event on The Children’s Trust’s website.
