Families' support for Schumacher

High-profile families have been sharing their experiences of brain injury in the wake of Michael Schumacher’s skiing accident.

The Formula One star remains in a critical condition after sustaining serious head injuries on Sunday. It is an all-too-familiar story for Richard Hammond, who has voiced his support for Mr Schumacher’s family in the Daily Mirror. The 44-year-old television presenter sustained a brain injury himself during filming for Top Gear, and said: “My heart goes out to his family and everyone around him because they can’t do anything but hope he gets better.” Beverley Turner is married to James Cracknell, the Olympic hero and adventurer who sustained a brain injury during a grueling cycling challenge. Writing in The Telegraph, Ms Turner also offered her best wishes to Mr Schumacher and his family. In the piece, she makes an articulate case for cycle helmets being made compulsory.
