Changing Places launches 1,000th toilet

There are now 1,000 Changing Places toilets in the UK – these are fully accessible toilets with a height adjustable changing bench and hoist.

The Changes Places campaign is 11 years’ old and today, Changing Places Awareness Day, the campaign continues to spread the message that standard accessible toilets do not meet the needs of thousands of disabled people and more toilets are needed. Changing Places said: “Without Changing Places toilets, people are faced with the decision between not going out, limiting outings or being changed on a toilet floor or baby change table. This is unsafe, unhygienic and unacceptable.” Research has found that over a quarter of a million severely disabled people, including those with profound and multiple learning disabilities, do not have access to public toilet facilities that meet their needs. For local information check out Changing Places searchable map for these facilities. To get involved in the campaign, add a Changing Places Twibbon to your Twitter or Facebook profile picture and snap a CPselfie and upload this to Changing Places Facebook or Twitter pages!
