Brain injury survivors display artwork at Southbank Centre

Art created by a collective of self-taught artists who have all survived brain injuries is on display at London’s Southbank Centre’s Summertime event.

The Making Faces exhibition, by Submit to Love Studios, is one of 40 events and attractions in the Summertime programme. Submit to Love Studios are based at charity Headway East London in Hackney. The works and installations will be on display from 3rd to 24th August in Southbank’s Royal Festival Hall. In Making Faces, more than 30 artists explore the face, the body, the self and the disjuncture between what is seen and what is felt. Southbank Centre said: “The artists have developed a distinctive set of practices and interests, refined over more than a decade.” Headway East London said: “Survivors of brain injury often experience both physical and cognitive changes and recovery can mean addressing difficult feelings of loss and isolation. "But it can also mean the discovery of new talents, skills and ways of seeing that can become the building-blocks of new positive identity.” For more information on the exhibition visit the Southbank Centre website.
