Boyzone singer, Keith Duffy to step down as patron of autism charity

His daughter is autistic and he has been a "stellar campaigner" for the cause for over ten years, successfully fighting for specialised autistic education in Ireland.

During his time as patron of Irish Autism Action(IAA), Duffy has helped raise over €8 million which contributed to the creation of autism services. Although his decision was made with what he described as a 'heavy heart', he will step down in order to concentrate on his family and career. Duffy has previously said that his daughter, Mia was diagnosed as autistic it was initially heart-breaking for the family and at first hard on his marriage "A lot of couples break up and there were certain points it was very tough," he said "Thank God we stuck together, got through hard times and are still together." Chief executive officer of IAA Kevin Whelan said: "Keith has been key in creating the awareness through his extensive, very personal interviews relating to his family's journey with autism," said Mr Whelan."
