Blue dye could help in brain injury recovery

The colour is similar to that used in M&M's and sports drinks.

A study has shown that the dye, Brilliant Blue G, could help improve recovery from traumatic brain injuries. It is thought that it could intervene by temporarily blocking at least one immune response that leads to damage and potential deadly swelling in the hours and days after injury. Neuroscientist Krishnan Dhandapani who is involved in the study said: "It's clinically safe, people are using it, so we know that we can use it. It's not going to cause toxicity and it's relatively inexpensive and easy to store." The only side effect the researchers have seen is, at large doses, mice in the study temporarily take on a blue hue. Read the full story here.
