This year’s Equality and Diversity conference is a joint event between the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and Housing Diversity Network (HDN), one of the leading organisations in the country offering specialist training and advice on equality and diversity issues to the housing sector.
The success of the 2012 Paralympic games challenged the nation’s perceptions of disabled people. The 2012 games gave us a chance to see disabled people at long last in the spotlight, achieving incredible results and genuinely shifting attitudes, especially amongst younger people. Taking our inspiration from the Paralympics, we will look at what the housing sector can do to ensure disabled people can participate in society as equal citizens
During this years event we will focus on disability equality and why it’s important for the housing industry. We will review how welfare reform has had a major impact on the lives of disabled people; legal issues surrounding adaptations to common parts and case law arising from the judicial review. Join us to look into reports and personal experiences of disability harassment and hate crime and how to combat it.

We will also showcase some ex-trainees and partners from our own Positive Action for Disability (PAfD) project, which empowers disabled people to kickstart a successful career in housing

The event also includes four interactive workshop sessions to learn from the experts and network with other professionals in the sector.

Sessions will include

•    Where we are now: the challenges of welfare reform
•    Legal update
