This is the first Family Support Forum  of 2015 and our first in Barnsley. The topic will be ‘Changes in SEN law’.  Rachael Smurthwaite and Sarah Woosey, specialist education law solicitors at Maxwell Gillott, will be giving a presentation on the Children and Families Act 2014 . The Act introduced significant changes to law dealing with the rights of disabled people and those with special educational needs from 1 September 2014 They will be discussing  the new Education and Health Care Plans (EHCPs) including the transfer and assessment process and post-16 provision, together with parents/young person’s ability to challenge decisions about EHCPs and secure appropriate provision to meet their needs Following this families are welcome to ask questions and discuss their concerns. Please note that there is free parking on site and teas and coffees are provided. There is also a café on site for those who would like to have lunch at the venue.
