Brake ‘Providing effective support following a brain injury’ seminar

Brake, the road safety charity, is running a low-cost training event, which will provide essential expert advice and guidance for anyone who works with people affected by brain injury. This crucial seminar will cover traumatic and acquired brain injury, and is relevant for both professionals supporting individuals who have suffered a brain injury, and also practioners who support and assist families impacted by brain injury.

Speakers at the seminar will cover:
An overview of the support available for families in the immediate aftermath of a brain injury
The impact that the transition from childhood to adulthood can have on those with a brain injury
How potentially vulnerable people can be supported into social integration
An introduction to the deputyship system
  Crucially, a vital learning opportunity and chance to discuss best practice will be provided through the attendance of a Brake volunteer, who will outline their experiences following a brain injury.  Confirmed speakers include:  
Dr Steven Allder, Consultant Neurologist at Plymouth Healthcare Trust. Providing a practical neurological overview of the aftermath of a brain injury, and an accesible explanation of the manifestation of a brain injury.
Case Study: A Brake volunteer will talk about their experience, and the support that they and their family received after suffering a brain injury as a child.
Dr James Tonks, Teaching Fellow at the University of Exeter and Consultant Clinical Psychologist at Haven Clinical Psychology Practice. Exploring behavioural changes after a brain injury, and providing information on how people can be supported into social re-integration
Anita Pascoe, Clinical Manager and Case Manager at West Country Case Management. Speaking on supporting individuals in the transition to independent living, and the role of the case manager in providing support and rehabilitation.
